BOILING SPRINGS - Members of the Forest City Owls front office visited Gardner-Webb's John H. Moss Stadium to watch 2016 Owls play early this college baseball season. Mason Fox, of Gardner-Webb, and Seth Hoagland, of Iona, squared off in a four game series. Both ballplayers made an appearance in the weekend set.

Fox hails from Canton, NC where he graduated last year. As a varsity member of the Pisgah High School baseball team, he played outfield and pitched. He accumulated a .491 batting average over the course of his junior and senior years. In 2014, the righty batter led Pisgah to its first conference title in 47 years, finishing with an 18-3 overall record.

Fox has impressed high-level baseball scouts for years. The Asheville Citizen-Times honored Fox with All-Western North Carolina honors after his junior season. Baseball scouting source Perfect Game rated Fox the No. 17 outfielder in North Carolina and as one of the Old North State's top-100 prospects, regardless of position.

In Fall 2014, Fox signed to play baseball at Gardner-Webb. His 6.6-second 60-meter dash time amazes college coaches. Through 13 games, he has only been caught once on five steal attempts at G-W. The Runnin' Bulldogs parlayed Fox's, among others', talents into a 13-0 start this season. Fox helped move the winning run around the bases in Sunday's ninth-inning win to remain undefeated at the time.

Seth Hoagland played against Fox in the four-game series as a member of the Iona College Gaels. This marks his sophomore season as a member of the New York-based team. Originally from Connecticut, Hoagland played at Waterford High before collegiate baseball. He earned All- Area recognition for his 2013 season.

In high school and at Iona, Hoagland demonstrated ability to play both infield and outfield. His freshman season proved him as a five-tool player. In mid-April of 2015 the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) named Hoagland "Rookie of the Week." The conference cited a week in which the freshman went 7-for-14 at the plate with seven RBIs. He also flashed speed with three steals and no errors over a four-game period.

Kiva Fuller, Forest City Owls General Manager, and Taylor Miller, Owls Assistant to the Owner and GM in Group Sales, watched the future Owls play on Saturday, February 27. Owner Phil Dangel, not pictured, also attended.

The Forest City Owls embark on the 2016 season under new ownership. The team opens its games at McNair Field in downtown Forest City on May 30 against the United States Military All-Stars. Follow the Owls on Twitter and Instagram @forestcityowls. For information and tickets call 282-245-0000.
