Two big innings lead Astros over Princeton in shootout

Greeneville, TN - The Greeneville Astros beat the Princeton Rays Tuesday night, 8-7, at Pioneer Park. In a game where both teams combined for 29 hits and 15 runs, the Astros recorded their third straight series victory of the season.

The Rays got the scoring started early when they plated two runs in the top of the first on a Darryl George double that brought in Brandon Martin and Granden Goetzman. The Astros, however, quickly answered in the bottom of the first with four runs. In the inning, Brian Blasik launched a two-run homer to drive in D'Andre Toney. After loading the bases, the Astros struck for more when Marc Wik walked with the bases loaded to score Terrell Joyce, and Ernesto Genoves scored on a throwing error by Rays' catcher Omar Narvaez to take a 4-2 lead at the end of the first. On the inning, Rays' starting pitcher Kevin James recorded two walks and a hit batsman.

After a scoreless second from both teams, Princeton added a run in the top of the third when Julian Morillo singled to left field to score Narvaez. The Rays then struck again in the top of the fifth when Morillo drove in Narvaez for a second time on an infield single to tie the score at 4-4.

Greeneville, however, quickly went back to work in the bottom of the fifth to reclaim the lead. Blasik recorded his third RBI of the game when he hit a double to left field that brought around D'Andre Toney. Also on the inning, Genoves hit a sacrifice fly to score Jean Batista, Ariel Ovando brought around Blasik on a line drive double and Marc Wik singled to score Ovando to take the lead, 8-4, through five innings.

The game went scoreless through the sixth and Princeton scored one in the seventh when Rays' right fielder William Argo scored on a Julian Morillo groundout to first to make the score 8-5 through seven innings.

The Rays added two more in the eighth when second baseman Reid Redman tripled to score Brandon Martin before Redman himself scored on an infield single by William Argo. The score through eight was 8-7 in favor of Greeneville.

In the ninth, however, pitcher Michael Dimock came in for the Astros and gave up only one hit to earn his first save of the season and end the game with the final score of 8-7.

On the night, the Astros recorded 15 hits and four walks as a team as well as plated eight runs en route to the victory. Astros' pitcher Jordan Jankowski recorded his third win of the season for the Astros with two innings pitched and five strikeouts while allowing one run.
