Florida Tuskers News Release
ORLANDO, FL - Friday, October 8, 2010 - On the eve of the Florida Tuskers showdown with the Hartford Colonials, the Tuskers lost another defensive starter this week. Cornerback Fahkir Brown was placed on the team's injured reserve list on Friday.
Brown injured his neck in last week's 20-17 loss to Las Vegas, but the decision to place him on the injured reserve list was not made until Thursday night.
To replace Brown, the Tuskers brought back defensive back Corey Small.
Small, who played at Florida Atlantic University 2005-08, was selected by the Florida Tuskers in the UFL Draft (9th round, 41st overall) after a strong performance at an open free-agent tryout camp in Miami this past May. He had an outstanding training camp and was one of the final cuts the Tuskers made.
At FAU, Small earned all-conference honors three times. In his final two seasons, he was credited with 186 total tackles with nine interceptions and 15 pass breakups.
Small will be in uniform tomorrow and will back up Simeon Castille at corner and will play special teams.
Brown's injury marked the fifth starter on defense the Tuskers have lost since the season opener on Sept. 8. Safety JR Reed (ankle) was placed on injured reserve after being hurt in the season opener. DE Patrick Chukurwah (hip) and linebacker Tim McGarigle (concussion) have both missed the last two games; while Chukurwah's replacement Chris Denman was lost for the year with a torn MCL and ACL.
Chukurwah is still listed as questionable for tomorrow's game; while McGarigle was upgraded to probable. Reed will be eligible to return on Oct. 21.
