Florida Tuskers News Release
JACKSONVILLE, FL - Monday, December 13 - New England Patriots defensive end ERIC MOORE led former United Football League players making an impact during Week 14 of NFL action.
Moore, who starred during the 2010 UFL season with the Florida Tuskers, forced a fumble, had four solo tackles, a sack and a tackle for loss in a 36-7 win Sunday at the Chicago Bears. Moore's forced fumble in the second quarter was recovered by the Patriots and led to a New England field goal.
"Basically, I was just hustling," said Moore. "You have to give credit to the defensive tackles and the D-ends. They pushed the pocket and made him come back to me. I had an opportunity to make the tackle and I did. At first I went for the tackle, they teach you here to get the hands. Basically, that's all I did."
Moore joined the Tuskers on October 4 after spending the 2010 training camp with the Carolina Panthers, and was on Florida's roster for the final five regular-season games and the United Football League Championship Game. During the regular season, Moore had two sacks, 12 total tackles, two passes defended, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and a half-tackle for loss. In the UFL Championship Game, Moore posted 1.5 total tackles and a tackle for loss.
Las Vegas Locomotives kicker STEVEN HAUSCHKA connected on 2 of 3 field goals and an extra point for the Denver Broncos in their 43-13 loss Sunday at the Arizona Cardinals. Hauschka signed with the Broncos this weekend and when thrust into action, put Denver's first points on the board with a 32-yard field goal and split the uprights again from 30 yards.
Hauschka played in the Locos' final six regular-season games and the UFL Championship Game victory over the Florida Tuskers after being signed on October 4. He was third in the UFL in scoring among kickers with 44 points, going 10-for-12 on field goals and 14-for-14 on extra points and twice won UFL Player of the Week awards.
Other notable Week 14 games from former UFL players included:
Atlanta Falcons kicker MATT BRYANT (Florida ¬Ë09) kicked four extra points and a 39-yard field goal in a 31-10 win at the Carolina Panthers. Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman SHAUN SMITH (Las Vegas ¬Ë09) started at left defensive end and recorded seven total tackles (five solo) and two tackles for loss in a 31-0 road loss to the San Diego Chargers. Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver MICHEAL SPURLOCK (Florida ¬Ë09) returned two kickoffs for 39 yards and two punts for 19 yards with a fair catch in a 17-16 road win at the Washington Redskins.
In Week 14 of the UFL season, 19 former United Football League players from the 2009 and 2010 seasons were on active 53-man NFL rosters.
