Evansville BlueCats News Release

EVANSVILLE, IN: The Evansville BlueCats (1-2) suffered a 75-34 defeat last weekend at the hands of the Omaha Beef (2-1). Despite only being out-gained by 5 yards of total offense in the game, the BlueCats could not overcome the 6 costly turnovers that led to 5 Beef touchdowns.

The BlueCats kept the game close into the second quarter. Kewan Dewberry found Dale Jennings for a 32 yard touchdown pass that cut the Beef lead to four, 14-10, on the first play of the second quarter, but then the trouble started for Evansville as they went on to commit four more turnovers before halftime.

In the game the BlueCats turned the ball over a total of 6 times. The Beef recovered 2 fumbles and returned both for touchdowns and ran back one interception for a touchdown. The other 3 turnovers were all interceptions, which were returned into BlueCats territory, giving the Omaha offense a short field. The Beef had 13 offensive possessions in the game and only started on their side of midfield 5 times.

BlueCats quarterbacks Kewan Dewberry and Dan Mettlach combined to complete 11 of 29 passing attempts for 167 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 4 interceptions.

BlueCats running back Dale Jennings caught 3 passes for 38 yards and one touchdown and had 6 kick returns for 141 yards, including a BlueCats record 54 yard kick return for a touchdown. Jennings also rushed for 23 yards. Jennings finished the game with 202 all-purpose yards.

Running back Kevin Galbreath added 7 yards on 3 carries and 3 receptions for 19 yards.

Sean Bennett was one of the bright spots for the BlueCats offense. The veteran wide receiver caught 3 passes of 37, 33, and 23 yards for a total of 93 yards and two touchdowns.

The defense was once again anchored by John Winchester and Demoine Adams. Adams earned 6 total tackles, including 3.5 tackles for a loss and one sack. Winchester grabbed an interception and was credited with 4 total tackles and a quarterback hurry. Tarron Acuff had 5 total tackles.

Kicker Ton-Ton Luzayadio was a perfect 4-4 on PAT kicks, and was 2-4 on field goal tries. Luzayadio converted his field goal attempts from 32 and 34 yards and missed wide right from 45. His 48 yard field goal attempt was blocked.

The Beef were led with an impressive performance from UIF Week Two Offensive Player of the Week RJ Rollins. The Beef running back ran for 59 yards and 2 touchdowns on 9 carries and caught 4 passes for 46 yards. Rollins also had one kick return for 15 yards.

The BlueCats will finish up their three game road trip this coming Saturday when they travel to Bloomington, Illinois, to play the Bloomington Extreme. Omaha will host the Sioux City Bandits (0-3).

Kickoff for Saturday's game is scheduled for 7:05pm at the US Cellular Coliseum. BlueCats road games can be heard on ESPN Radio 94.9.
