Tupelo Gets Its Man

TUPELO, MS - The Ultimate Indoor Football League (UIFL) and the UIFL Tupelo organization is pleased to announce that Martino Theus will be the team's head coach for the 2012 season.

Theus comes to Tupelo after serving as the defensive coordinator of the Bossier-Shreveport BattleWings (AFL) in 2010. His responsibilities included organizing and conducting the defensive practice script, uploading and downloading film and calling plays during the game. He spent three seasons on the Battle Wings staff, two of which ended in division crowns.

"Coach Theus brings enthusiasm and indoor football knowledge that will serve our expansion Tupelo franchise well," said UIFL President Andrew Haines. "He has coached at the highest level of the arena game, and we are excited that he has decided to continue his coaching career in the UIFL."

He is currently serving as an assistant coach at Jackson (TN) Preparatory Academy, and has spent time coaching at his alma mater, Lambuth College (TN). As a player, Theus played on two teams that reached their league's championship game.

The UIFL recently finished the 2011 season with Saginaw claiming the first Ultimate Bowl, sponsored by Trophy Awards, title. All of the six original teams - Canton, Ohio, Johnstown, Pa., Huntington, WVa., Pikeville, Ky., Highland Heights, Ky., and Saginaw Mich. - completed the season without any missed games.
