Tucson Blanked 2-0 in Maui Wednesday

Maui, HI - The Tucson Toros finished their six game road trip to Maui with a 2-0 shut out by the Na Koa Ikaika. Tucson went 1-5 in the series and are off to a rough 2-6 start in the second have of the GBL season.

Wednesday's series finale followed the theme of the rest of the series for the Toros - solid pitching but more offensive struggles. Toros Starter John Bannister was fantastic, allowing just 2 runs (1 earned) in 7 innings while striking out 5. The quality start was the fifth in six tries for Tucson starters in Maui, but ended with Bannister taking the tough luck loss to fall to 2-2.

Maui hurler Donald Brandt shut down Tucson with 7 scoreless innings to improve to improve to a flawless 8-0 this season. The game marked the second time in the series that Tucson was shut out after also being blanked on Saturday.

The Toros managed just 2 hits in the contest, and are now hitting .136 (17-for-125) over their last four games. 1B Cristobal Santana had one of the team's hits, a 2nd inning double that extended his active hitting streak to 7 games. CF Josh Womack added Tucson's other hit when he singled in the 3rd.

The Toros will head home to host the St. George Roadrunners for a three game series at Hi Corbett Field beginning on Fireworks Friday at 7:00 p.m. The game can be heard live on COOL 1450 AM or video streaming over the internet at www.tucsontoros.com.
