Tryout in San Antonio Thursday

The professional Central Baseball League will hold an open tryout Thursday in San Antonio, Texas.

Registration begins at 7:30 AM and ends promptly at 8:00 AM on Thursday. The tryouts start at 8 a.m., last most of the day and a small group of players will be invited back for a scrimmage on Friday morning. The league will conduct a dispersal draft on Friday after the scrimmage and those selected will receive contract offers.

The league is seeking players recently released from major league organizations and top-flight former college players. Last year, 20 percent of players at the camp were offered contracts with Central League teams.

Registration for the camp will be held on site. Advance registration is not necessary.

The Central Baseball League will play with 10 teams in 2003 and open on May 7. The teams are the Alexandria Aces, Amarillo Dillas, Edinburg Roadrunners, Fort Worth Cats, Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings, San Angelo Colts, Springfield/Ozark Mountain Ducks, Jackson Senators, Shreveport Sports and Coastal Bend Aviators in Robstown.

Directions to site: I-10 to Culebra Ave. exit 568-B toward Bandera (south), 2-3 miles, stadium is at the edge of campus.
