
Trudi Lacey to Participate in National Girls and Women in Sports Day

Charlotte Sting GM/Head Coach Trudi Lacey will be a keynote speaker and sign autographs as a part of nationwide festivities for National Girls and Women in Sports Day at Noon on Wednesday, February 9.
Coordinated by the Charlotte Women's Sports Association, the event is open to the public and will take place from 11 a.m. â 2 p.m. at 101 Independence Center Atrium (101 N. Tryon St). Other speakers will include members of the Charlotte Eagles and the Executive Women's Golf Association.
Now in its 19th year, National Girls and Women in Sports Day was chartered by the U.S. Congress in 1986 to honor female athletic achievement and recognize the importance of fitness participation for all girls and women. This year's national theme is "More Than A Game" and will be celebrated in all 50 states.
Lacey, who is entering her fifth overall season with the Sting, has compiled a 34-34 record in two years as head coach of the team and is also responsible for all basketball-related decisions as general manager. Additionally, Lacey served two years as an assistant coach where she helped guide the Sting to the 2001 WNBA Finals.
Prior to her work in the WNBA, Lacey was involved with USA Basketball as a player, coach and committee member. Her coaching career began in 1983 at her alma mater, North Carolina State University. She has also coached at the University of Maryland, the University of South Florida, NAIA Francis Marion College, Manhatten College and James Madison University. As a player, Lacey was named an All-AIAW Tournament selection on four occasions, a Women's Sports Foundation All-American in 1980 and a Wade Trophy Finalist in 1981.
The Charlotte Sting will open their ninth season on May 21 at the Charlotte Coliseum as they host the Washington Mystics at 6 p.m. Season ticket plans begin at just $102 and are available now by calling a ticket sales representative at (704) 424-WNBA.
