Trousdale Jumps on Board with Alumni
August 28, 2009 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Topeka Pilots News Release
TOPEKA, KS, AUGUST 28, 2009: If you find it hard to believe Ross Trousdale is an Alumni already, you're not alone. "Right now it still hasn't hit me that I'm not going back, but I feel as soon as I report to school that will kick in", he said. After two seasons as a Topeka RoadRunner, he is moving on to play for Division III St. Olaf University.
Trousdale was basically your stereotypical Minnesota kid as far as hockey goes. "I grew up playing on a rink in my back yard my father built for me and my brothers. It just stuck from there." He added, They couldn't get me to come inside." Playing high school hockey in his hometown of Buffalo, MN, he attracted the attention of RoadRunner scout Tom Kelly and head coach Scott Langer. "Tom Kelly contacted me, and things just progressed from there. Topeka sounded like a good fit, and it worked out." In two seasons with the âRunners, Trousdale amassed 16 goals and 29 assists for 45 points. He was a fan favorite, both for his on ice play and his off ice demeanor. "He played a big role in the success of this program. His stats don't reflect the effect he had as a role player", said head coach Scott Langer. "I mean, the kid played with a cast on his hand no one knew. That's the kind of skill he has." Trousdale lists the overtime playoff series win over Fairbanks as his greatest hockey thrill. "It was amazing. I'll never forget it." Now Trousdale is getting ready to skate for St. Olaf, and while he hasn't decided on a major, he feels economics may be the best choice for him. In the short term, his mind is on coming back for the Alumni Game. It still sounds odd to him to be considered Alumni. But he admits, "I had a great time in Topeka and really enjoyed playing in front of the fans that gave such great support." Asked what he expects from the game, he flashed his boyish grin. "Well, it's a time to give back to the fans of Topeka but also I'm pretty competitive so I believe it's gonna be a stomping by the Alumni." Whatever happens in the game, the table is certainly setting up to be something a lot more competitive than a simple exhibition game. Both sides will be playing with a lot of pride, and a lot of passion. Tickets are on sale now.
