Tropics Sign All MASL Second Team Defender Jake Schindler for Remainder of 2021 Season

LAKELAND, Fla. - Veteran defender Jack Schindler, a Second Team All Major Arena Soccer League honoree last year, will be joining the Florida Tropics for the remainder of the 2021 season.

Schindler played the last two years with Utica City FC, and signed this past offseason with the Rochester Lancers, who retain his rights going forward once the current season comes to an end.

Recently, Utica, Rochester, Baltimore, Harrisburg and Rochester announced they would be unable to play this year due to ongoing pandemic restrictions in the northeast. In fact, the Lancers home arena is currently being used as a mass vaccination site for Covid-19.

"He's an extremely hard worker, very talented and very smart, he understands the game at both ends of the floor very well," Tropics Coach Clay Roberts said. "He will have an immediate positive impact on our team in any number of ways."

The big, physical defender has appeared in 178 career pro indoor games, and has 165 shots blocked. He also has 37 goals and 55 assists in that time with Utica, Rochester and Syracuse.

Last year with Utica, the Rochester, N.Y. native set career highs with 10 goals and nine assists. He was an Honorable Mention All MASL pick following the 2018-19 season and had a career-best 23 blocked shots the season prior to that. He made his debut with the Lancers in the 2011-12 indoor season.

Florida, the defending Eastern Conference champions, currently sit in second place the MASL standings with a 6-1 mark, and will next be on the floor Friday in Dallas when they take on the Sidekicks in a 7:35 CST start. Because teams will not being playing the same number of games, standing are determined by winning percentage. The Ontario Fury are currently atop the table with two wins in two starts. Only seven of the league teams are playing this season because of the pandemic, with only four teams - the Tropics, St. Louis, Kansas City and Dallas - actually able to stage home games.

The Tropics will return home to host three teams who will play a total of six games in four days at the RP Funding Center in Lakeland starting Thursday, Feb. 18, when Florida hosts the Tacoma Starts in a 4 p.m. start. Florida will then meet the San Diego Sockers on Friday at 7 p.m. and host the Ontario Fury on Sunday at 3 p.m. It is the first ever visits to Florida by Tacoma and Ontario, who along with the Sockers, will all play each other during the event as well.
