Florida Tropics SC News Release
ONTARIO, California -- The Florida Tropics kept their hopes for a second-straight regular season title alive Wednesday night in Ontario, defeating the Fury 6-3 to set up a Major Arena Soccer League showdown in San Diego Thursday night.
Zach Reget scored three times, including a pretty give-and-go with Ricardo Carvalho just seconds after Ontario had cut the Florida lead to 5-2 early in the fourth, to set up the key game with the Sockers, who currently have the No. 1 postseason seed.
Florida is guaranteed of no worse than No. 2, and could still take the top spot with a win in San Diego, and a win at home Sunday, April 3 against the Baltimore Blast to wrap up the regular season. San Diego would also have to lose Sunday at home to Ontario for the Tropics to overtake them.
Florida won't know who its opponent will be until this weekend's games are complete, but do know they will host their first-ever home playoff game on Sunday, April 10 at 5 p.m.
Goaltender Jorge Navarette got the win, facing 36 Ontario shots.
Victor Parreiras picked up a goal and two assists, while Taylor Walter Bond and Ricardo Carvalho added a goal and assist each. Reget also picked up an assist to give him a four-point night.
Thursday's game in San Diego will be streamed live on the league's new platform for games, Twitch.
