August 28, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Miami Tropics News Release
Miami, FL. In an effort to accommodate players in both Miami-Dade and Broward counties, ABA Miami Tropics team president Art Alvarez has announced that the Miami Tropics basketball team has changed the venue for their first open tryout to the Sunset Lakes Community Center in Miramar, Florida. The dates have also changed to Friday, September 8th from 9am-2pm and Sunday, September 10th from 2pm-5pm. The fee for the event will be $125 for pre-registered players and $150 for walk-ups on the morning of the tryouts.
Players can pre-register by contacting the Tropics at miamitropics2004@yahoo.com or customerservice@galaxyofstarsbasketball.com. All applicants should provide the team with their name, address, contact number, height, weight, experience and will be asked to sign a liability waiver before competing. All fees may be paid by cash or money order.
Sunset Lakes Community Center is located at 2801 SW 186th Avenue, Miramar, Florida. Athletic Coordinator for the venue, John Kee, announced that the Center will also serve as the practice facility for the Tropics during the 2006-2007 season.
"We want to reach out to the entire South Florida Community," said Alvarez. "Moving the workouts to Sunset Lakes gives players from Broward as well as Miami-Dade an equal chance to show their skills. We want to give anyone with a dream to play professional basketball a chance to fulfill it by working out for the Tropics."

Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
