Florida Tropics SC News Release
LAKELAND, Fla. - Despite suffering their first loss of the season, the Florida Tropics remain in a tie for first place in the Major Arena Soccer League's Eastern Conference, and will look to start a new winning streak with road games in Rochester and Baltimore this weekend.
Florida will be in Rochester (N.Y.) Friday night, Jan. 3, to meet the first-year Lancers, who played in MASL2 last season, but are looking for their first win since moving up to the MASL this year. It will be the first meeting ever between the two teams.
Saturday, Jan. 4, will see the Tropics in Baltimore (4-4), in a rematch of a 7-2 Tropics win Dec. 21 at the RP Funding Center in Lakeland. That was just the Tropics second win ever over the Blast, who have won 10 indoor soccer championships in their history. It is only one of three weekends in the 2019-20 season that the Tropics will play on back-to-back nights.
Both games will be broadcast live at masl.tv Kickoff in Rochester is 7:05 p.m., while the start time in Baltimore will be 6:05 p.m.
The 5-1 Tropics - who now hold a half game lead over the defending league champion Milwaukee Wave (4-1) and Utica City FC (5-2) - continue to be lead offensively by Ricardo Carvalho who has six goals and seven assists. Captain Victor Parreiras is second in points with five goals and three assists.
The Lancers are led by Anthony Rozzano with four goals and two assists. Rochester (0-6) has been outscored by 43 goals in their six losses.
Baltimore - which lost back-to-back games to Florida and Orlando two weekends ago - has rallied for two straight wins including a dramatic overtime triumph in Utica on Sunday. Vini Dantas is pacing the Blast's offense with 12 goals and four assists, while Tony Donatelli is second on the team in scoring with seven goals and seven assists.
After the quick road trip, Florida will return to Lakeland for another three-game home stand starring with back-to-back Sunday matinee's against the Orlando Seawolves on Jan. 12 and 19. Both games will start at 3:05 p.m. The St. Louis Ambush will make one of their two 2019-20 visits to the RP Funding Center on Saturday, Jan. 25 in a 5:05 kickoff.
