Orange County Breakers News Release
NEWPORT BEACH, CALIF. (February 9, 2011) - Trevor Kronemann, the UC Irvine men's tennis coach, will return for his fifth season as coach of the Newport Beach Breakers of the World TeamTennis Pro League presented by GEICO, the team announced Thursday. Co-founded by Billie Jean King, the WTT Pro League presented by GEICO features the biggest names in the world playing WTT's innovative coed team format.
Kronemann has been at the helm of the Breakers since 2007 and has been involved with the League since 1990 when he was named 1990 WTT Male Rookie of the Year. Kronemann was also named two-time League MVP when he played with the Newport Beach Dukes in 1993 and 1994. In 2005, Kronemann was named to the World TeamTennis All-Time All-Star team, a group of the best men's and women's players during the first three decades of WTT.
Kronemann was named 2010 Big West Coach of the Year after UCI won the Big West Tournament and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. He also led UCI to a Big West regular season co-championship in 2008 and 2009.
"The opportunity to coach the Newport Beach Breakers and be part of the Orange County tennis scene is something that I look forward to every year," said Kronemann. "I'm forever indebted to the opportunities that WTT has presented to me and feel that after this, my 22nd year of World TeamTennis, it just might be my turn to bring a Championship to Orange County."
The Breakers will start to build their 2011 lineup at the WTT Marquee Player Draft on Tuesday, February 15. The team completes their roster at the WTT Roster Player Draft on Tuesday, March 15. The 2011 schedule is expected to be released in early March.
In July 2011, the Breakers will play 14 regular season matches, including seven home matches at their home venue, The Tennis Club Newport Beach (1602 E. Pacific Coast Highway, Newport Beach, Calif. 92660). The Breakers' primary beneficiary is the Hoag Hospital Foundation.
