Trenton Steel News Release
(TRENTON, NJ - November 11, 2010) The Trenton Steel announced today that it has appointed Jeff Hoffman as the team's Head Coach and Director of Football Operations. Hoffman comes to the Steel from the Utah Blaze of the Arena Football League (AFL), where he was the Defensive Coordinator.
Hoffman is no stranger to indoor football in New Jersey, having served on the coaching staff of the Arena Football Leagues' New Jersey Red Dogs in the 1990's under former New York Giants coach John Hufnagel.
"I am really looking forward to the challenge in Trenton," says Hoffman. "Being a 'Jersey Guy,' this opportunity to lead New Jersey's only professional indoor football team is very exciting to me and my family. New Jersey is a hotbed for football and goes largely unrecognized; I look forward to showcasing much of this talent."
Prior to taking over the Utah defense midway through last season under Head Coach Ron James, Hoffman served as Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator for the Albany Conquest of Arena Football League2 (AFL2) in 2008. In 2007, he served as the Defensive Coordinator in Albany under Head Coach Pete Costanza, who left Albany to become the Wide Receivers Coach for the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League (CFL). Hoffman was also the Special Teams Coordinator for the AFL's Columbus Destroyers in 2005. Hoffman is the Northeast Regional Scout for the Edmonton Eskimos of the CFL and has previously worked in the New York Giants personnel department. Hoffman is a graduate of the University of Maryland where he was a member of the Terrapins football team.
"Jeff Hoffman brings many years of experience in indoor football to the Trenton Steel. His defensive expertise will be essential to establishing a tough presence in the SIFL Northeast Division this season, and his approach to the game will resonate throughout the entire organization," announced Steel Team President Andrew Bondarowicz. "Jeff's veteran leadership and approach to the game is exactly what we need in Trenton as we seek to build a championship organization here. Jeff is the right guy for this job."
Added Steel General Manager Richard Lisk, "Jeff is a very well respected coach. He has a great reputation with players and knows the indoor game. He is going to be a tremendous asset to the organization." Lisk and Hoffman's paths had previously crossed during Lisk's tenure as the General Manager of the Philadelphia Soul from 2005-2008.
The Trenton Steel will kick off their inaugural season in the SIFL in March 2011 and will play all of their home games at the Global-Spectrum Managed Sun National Bank Center in Trenton, NJ.
