Philadelphia Force News Release

The Philadelphia Force announced today that they have traded shortstop Chelsea Spencer, along with a 5th-round draft pick, to the Rockford Thunder in exchange for catcher Savannah Brown and a 4th-round draft pick.

"Ever since I saw her play on Team NPF in Oklahoma City and catch Katie Burkhart, I knew I had to add her to our roster. Not only is she one of the premier catchers in the league but her hitting stats will become even greater in a more regular role as a starter", states Tom Kleinman, Owner/GM of the Philadelphia Force.

Brown, having just completed her first professional season, batted .206 (13-for-63) with three long balls and 12 RBI in 22 games for the Thunder. Rockford drafted the 22-year-old catcher out of Georgia Tech University with its first selection (5th overall) in the 2008 NPF senior draft. The San Diego, CA native holds the ACC and Georgia Tech record with 194 career RBI and ranks third at GT and fourth in the ACC with 45 career home runs. Brown also ranks third at Tech in games played (255), third in games started (247), third in at bats (706), fifth in total bases (282), fifth in walks (99), fourth in fielding percentage (.986), second in fielding chances (1,253) and second in putouts (1,115).

Spencer, a four-year NPF veteran, enjoyed another solid offensive season with the Force in 2008. Chelsea provided a nice balance of power and speed in the Force lineup. "We wish Chelsea nothing but the best in Rockford in 2009", says Kleinman.

The Force opens the 2009 season on Wednesday, June 3rd, in Chicago vs. the defending NPF-champion Bandits.
