Hickory Crawdads News Release
ASHEVILLE, NC - The Asheville Tourists won the series finale against the Hickory Crawdads, 6-1, before 2,383 fans at Historic McCormick Field on Sunday afternoon.
The Tourists (27-15) swung in front in the bottom of the second inning against RHP Santo Perez (L, 2-3). 1B Harold Riggins drove a solo shot over the right-field wall, lifting Asheville to the 1-0 lead.
The Crawdads (19-21) came right back in the top of the third inning against RHP Daniel Winkler (W, 5-2). With one away, DH Chris Grayson got on board with a free pass. 2B Luis Sardinas singled Grayson to third base, before Grayson raced home later in the frame on a Winkler wild pitch, tying it at 1-1.
Asheville, though, moved back in front in the top of the fourth inning. C Will Swanner led off with a double, and then scored on an RBI single by RF Jared Simon one out later. After DH Taylor Featherston was hit by a pitch to put two runners on, 3B Rosell Herrera knocked a two-run double to left-center field, plating both runners and making it 4-1.
The Tourists stretched the lead with an RBI double by CF Delta Cleary, Jr. in the sixth inning and a RBI ground out by LF Tyler Massey in the seventh, accounting for the 6-1 eventual final score in the Asheville win.
