
Toros Trio Strikes at Home to Earn Three Big Points

EDINBURG, Texas - Rio Grande Valley F.C (10-12-6) hosted Western conference opponent New Mexico United (11-9-9) at H-E-B Park. Ycaza, Pinzon and Fjeldberg tally goals as they all join Frank Lopez atop the team scoring leader board.
New Mexico struck early in the contest, at the 8th minute, Amando Moreno controlled inside the box and sent a shot past Tyler Deric to make it 0-1 in favor of the visitors. This came off a mistimed sliding tackle at midfield by Akeem Ward created a counter- attack play.
Rio Grande answered at the 16-minute mark as Wahab Ackwei floated a perfectly placed lob-assist into the box to a closing Emilio Ycaza who sent a first touch volley shot into the net to equalize, 1-1. This marked Ycaza's fifth goal of the season, tying Frank Lopez as scoring leader for the side. Ackwei notched his fourth assist on the year.
Christian Pinzon received, controlled, and created tight space to send a strong shot past defenders to place RGV FC ahead 2-1 in the contest at the 22nd minute. This marked Pinzon's fifth goal of the year, joining Ycaza and Lopez as top scorers for the Edinburg side at five goals apiece.
Ricky Ruiz broke away on a counter play at the 68th minute and scooted an assist over to a closing Jonas Fjeldberg who sent a simply shot ball into the back of the net past Alex Tambakis, 3-1. This marked Fjeldberg's third goal with RGV, fifth overall in the USL Championship.
RGV FC closed the night on nine shots, four shot on target as they locked in their second win in a row, their largest win margin at H-E-B Park this campaign.
