Toros Set Attendance Record Despite 3-2 Loss

The Tucson Toros lost 3-2 to the Yuma Scorpions on Sunday in front of a crowd of 9,158 fans. The Toros broke their own record from last year of 9,038 to set a new all-time Golden Baseball League single game attendance record. After the game, the record crowd was treated to a star spangled spectacular fireworks show exploding over the left field fence.
The Scorpions put the first run on the board in the 2nd inning after RF Johny Celis scored on a throwing error by Toros SS Ryan Priddy.
Tucson erased an early deficit with 2 runs in the bottom of the 4th thanks to RBI singles by both 1B Wally Backman Jr. and RF Francisco Plasencia. The Scorpions took back the lead in the bottom of the frame after a sacrifice fly RBI by CF Timothy Rodriguez to put the Scorpions up 3-2.
Starter James Garcia kept the Toros in the game with a quality start. The righty scattered 7 hits and 2 walks in 7 innings, while striking out 5.
Plasencia had a pair of singles to extend his hitting streak to 14 games, while LF Lino Garcia singled to stretch his to 8 straight
The Toros and Yuma Scorpions will play game two of the three game series tomorrow on Retro Monday, with a 7:00 p.m. first pitch. The game can be heard live on COOL 1450 AM or video streaming over the Internet at www.tucsontoros.com.
