
Toros Drop Second Straight with 10-1 Loss

Tucson, AZ - The Tucson Toros lost to the Yuma Scorpions 10-1 Monday night. The second straight loss put the Toros 3 games below 500, with the team remaining in 3rd place in the GBL Southern Division.
Yuma roughed up Tucson starter Matt Lincoln in the first three innings to pull ahead 5-0, including a solo home run by Scorpions 1B Anthony D'Alfonso. Tucson countered with one run in the bottom of the 3rd inning on an RBI triple by 2B Jose Valdez to score CF Ron Perodin. The triple by Valdez was number 19 on the season for the Toros, who now lead the league for the most 3-baggers in the GBL.
Yuma went on to pile on five more runs increasing the Scorpions lead 10-1. The Toros added a run in the bottom of the 9th on a sacrifice fly by SS Ryan Priddy.
RF Francisco Plasencia had a single in the bottom of the 9th to extend his hitting streak to 15 games, the longest active hitting streak in the GBL. LF Lino Garcia went 0-for-3 to snap his 8-game hitting streak.
Lincoln was pulled after the 3rd inning after giving up 8 hits, 5 runs, 4 walks, with 1 strikeout. Loncoln took the loss to fall to 1-5. Lefty Cody Walden took the mound in the 4th and threw 4 innings, allowed 2 hits, 1 earned run and struck out 3 to lower his ERA to 2.10.
Yuma had seven players with multi-hit nights, including CF Jonal Pacheco who went 4-6, with 2 RBI and 3 runs scored.
The Toros will start a three game series tomorrow against the Northern Division Leading Chico Outlaws, with a 7:00 p.m. first pitch. The game can be heard live on COOL 1450 AM or video streaming over the Internet at www.tucsontoros.com.
