Toros Lose Game One Slugfest 9-8

Tucson, AZ - The Tucson Toros lost game one of the GBL Championship, 9-8, to the Calgary Vipers, Wednesday night.

Game one, of the best of five series, featured 28 total hits as Calgary pounded out 16 hits, while the Toros slugged 12, including two homeruns.

Junior Spivey hit one of the Toros' homeruns in his 3-3 night. The second baseman also scored four times and drove in one RBI.

First baseman Dustin Yount also had a good day at the plate as he went 3-4, scored once and drove in one run.

Andre Marshall only picked up one hit in the game but he made it count as it was a solo homerun in the seventh inning.

Jason Jacome got the start on the hill for the Toros, where he went 4 1/3 innings. On the night, the veteran lefty gave up six runs, on 12 hits, and he struck out two Calgary batters.

Jordan Muir was the first Toro out of the bullpen, where he threw 2 1/3 innings of relief. Muir gave up three runs, on three hits, before giving way to Jason Hanna, who threw the final 2 1/3, of scoreless baseball.

Game two, of the best-of-five championship series, is scheduled for Thursday, at Hi Corbett field. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 pm; gates open at 6:00 pm.
