Rio Grande Valley FC Toros News Release
PHOENIX, Arizona - Rio Grande Valley F.C (8-12-6) squared up against Phoenix Rising FC (9-12-5) at Wild Horse Pass for the first meeting between the sides of the season. Pinzon scored one for the Toros in the 2-1 loss as Rising FC claimed three at home in the tight contest, this marks the third goal in three matches for Pinzon. Luis Seijas scored his second brace of the year for Phoenix on the night.
Phoenix struck at the 15-minute mark as Luis Seijas sent a well-placed floating header into the net past Javier Garcia, 1-0. Santi Moar was credited with the assist on the play as he sent the cross from the left wing into the back center of the 18-yard box.
Javier Garcia made a well-timed save at the 29-minute mark as a tight cross threated the goal with a closing Phoenix attacker. He was able to make an uncomfortable diving clearance in traffic to keep the match at 1-0.
Christian Pinzon capitalized on a fatal Phoenix error as goalkeeper Ben Lundt failed to connect with his defender on a routine play and the ball was left loose inside the box. Pinzon controlled the ball and sent a calm shot into the net to level things at the 41st minute, 1-1. This marked the third goal of the season for Pinzon.
Rising FC shot nine times in the opening half, placing four on target as both sides went into the break deadlocked at 1-1. Garcia was forced to make three saves as the home side was relentless in the attack.
Seijas went for goal from well outside the box and placed a precise left footed shot past Garcia to claim the lead for Phoenix, 2-1, as he locked in a brace in the match.
One went off the post in added time for Rio Grande as they chased an equalizer off the foot of Emilio Ycaza at the 93rd minute, 2-1. The Toros pressed high late but fell short as Phoenix Rising claimed the win at Wild Horse Pass.
