Rio Grande Valley FC Toros News Release
AUSTIN - Rio Grande Valley FC (8-6-5) draw 1-1 at Austin Bold FC (6-5-7) on Tuesday night.
Austin earned the game-lead in the 26th minute after Carter Manley conceded a foul inside the penalty area. Xavier Baez took the penalty shot to convert to the left post, past Colin Miller, 1-0. The penalty goal has been the second this 2021 that RGV FC has conceded.
The Toros didn't take long to equalize following a free kick to inside the box by Rodrigo Lopez. Lopez was able to find Elvis Amoh allowing Amoh to head the ball to the back of the net, 1-1, scoring his fifth goal of the season.
The first half of the matchup between both Texas clubs stayed even. The second half kicked off with a dangerous attempt by Roberto Avila in the 50th minute after sending a shot but missed to the right side. From off the bench Christian Sorto came in firing a right footed shot from outside the box but was denied.
RGV FC had two more back-to-back opportunities in the 71st minute after a shot from more than 35 yards out by Lopez but was blocked. Sorto followed with the rebound but was also blocked from outside the box.
Before the final whistle Miller was tested once again by Stefano Pinho and Owayne Omar Gordon but both failed to capitalize.
The Toros ended the night with nine total shots, two on target while maintaining a 49.8% possession rate. Austin Bold shot four with one on target and kept 50.2% ball possession.
Amoh led the squad with three total shots, two on target and the lone goal. Lopez followed with two total shots, two on target and two key passes, including an assist.
