Toronto Rock vs Edmonton Rush March 16

March 14, 2007 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Edmonton Rush News Release

Edmonton, AB--. The Rush (3-5) take on the Toronto Rock (4-5) in the only meeting of the season between these Canadian rivals.

The Rush are coming off a disappointing 11-9 home-turf loss to the San Jose Stealth back on March 2, while the Rock are reeling with two straight losses following a 17-13 setback at home against the Calgary Roughnecks followed by a 13-10 upset at the hands of the expansion New York Titans.

With those losses, both teams currently sit on the outside of the NLL playoff picture as the season moves into its second half. The Rush are tied for fourth in the West with San Jose, but the Stealth hold the edge thanks to their road victory in Edmonton. Both Edmonton and San Jose are 1.5 games behind third-place Calgary.

Meanwhile, the Rock are tied for fourth in the East with Philadelphia but the Wings have the advantage thanks to their 10-9 win over Toronto back in January. Philadelphia and Toronto trail third-place Minnesota by one game.

This past weekend, the Rush and Rock were represented at the 2007 NLL All-Star game in Portland. Rush forward Jimmy Quinlan made his All-Star Game debut and registered a goal and three assists while the Rock's Aaron Wilson and Josh Sanderson helped the East to a 20-16 win over the West as they combined for four assists.

Chris Gill leads the Rush with 20 goals and 35 points while Randy Daly is tops among the Rush with 21 assists and 54 loose balls. Despite the loss to the Stealth, goaltender Curtis Palidwor continues to shine the Rush net, posting an 8.73 goals-against average in four games with Edmonton. That is almost a 50% cut in his GAA since coming over in a trade with New York (16.15 in five games with the Titans).

The Rush went 0-2 versus the Rock in 2006. Quinlan had two goals and one assist in his first meeting against his former team, but the Rock earned a 14-8 win in Toronto. Cam Bergman had a goal and three assists and Quinlan, Jamey Bowen and Darren Hillier each had three-point games but Toronto still managed a 13-11 win in Edmonton. Goaltender Pat Campbell stopped 82 of 108 shots in the two games against the Rock.

The Edmonton Rush announced this week that they have been awarded the 2008 All-Star Game by the National Lacrosse League. NLL Commissioner Jim Jennings made the announcement at a press conference Monday, March 12 in Edmonton and Bruce Urban, Owner and Governor of the Rush, graciously accepted the role which will see the Rush play host to the best professional lacrosse players in the world showcasing their talents.
