Tornado winning streak hits nice with 2-1 win over Wild

October 29, 2010 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Texas Tornado News Release

It wasn't pretty, but it got the job done. Behind a mid-3rd period goal from Marc Biggs the Texas Tornado increased their winning streak to nine games in a row with a close 2-1 win over the Wenatchee Wild in Frisco on Friday night. Jack Prince added the other goal for Texas, while goaltender Jimmy Kruger stopped 15 of 16 shots for his 7th win of the season.

The game started as expected, with both teams trying to figure one another out and not wanting to make a mistake. Both goalies, Brandon Jaeger for Wenatchee and Jimmy Kruger for Texas, were stellar in the early going as the teams were even in shots at six a piece with five minutes remaning. Then the Tornado offense came alive with several chances, which ulitmately resulted in a goal from Jack Prince, whose centering pass from behind the net deflected off the skate of Wild defenseman Kyle Huson and in behind Jaeger for the 1-0 Texas lead.

The lead was shortlived however, as in the 2nd period Wenatchee leading scorer Eliot Grauer would answer on the power play as he slapped a rebound out of midair to tie the game at 1-1. The tie would stand the rest of the period.

The 3rd period opened with a Wenatchee flury, but that's as close as the Wild would get. After some great Tornado chances, Marc Biggs scored the go-ahead goal with nine minutes remaining in the game as he collected a hot bounce off the end boards from a slapshot from Alec Thieda and tapped home the loose puck for a 2-1 Tornado lead they would never give up. Wenatchee could not get their extra attacker on the ice until :40 seconds remaning in the game and the few chances they had to tie the game were squashed by Kruger's solid netminding.
