Texas Tornado News Release
The Texas Tornado have been bitten by the injury bug of late, and as a result have struggled putting the puck in the net. Over the last two weeks, the Tornado have been playing without both Jordan and Justin Greenberg, two-thirds of their top line. Dating back to last Saturday's game against Odessa, the team has scored just three goals in its last three games. After getting knocked off by Corpus Christi 6-1 on Friday night, Texas played host to the Odessa Jackalopes 24 hours later. Though they played better defensively, the Tornado still mustered just one goal and lost by a score of 2-1.
Thursday, January 5th- Herndon scores in return, Tornado blown out 6-1
The Texas Tornado came into Thursday's game against the Corpus Christi IceRays as winners of five of their last seven games. But four IceRays goals in the first period propelled them to a 6-1 win over the Tornado at Dr Pepper Arena. Corpus Christi goaltender Anthony Stolarz made 29 of 30 saves in his 11 th win of the season. The game marred the return of Taylor Herndon, who played in his first game in two months and scored the lone Tornado goal at 6:47 of the third period. He came into the zone with Marc Biggs, who found Herndon cutting towards the net with a cross-ice pass to the far post. Herndon was there to put it in and get the Tornado on the board.
Friday January 6th- Tornado drop third straight in 2-1 loss to Odessa
The Texas Tornado were handed their third straight loss Friday night, coming at the hands of the Odessa Jackalopes, who defeated the Tornado by a score of 2-1. The Tornado sent 32 shots on goal, but Jackalopes goaltender Connor Hellebuyck stopped all but one of them in what was his 11th victory of the season. Joakim Jutras started in net for the Tornado and only saw 18 shots, but the two that got past him were enough to hand the Tornado the loss. Texas struck first when a fortuitious bounce led to a golden opportunity for the Tornado. Texas attempted to simply dump the puck in, but in doing so, the puck bounced off the boards, took a right turn and headed through the slot to the stick of Ondrej Kopta. With the puck on his backhand, the 16-year-old Czech native put it high-glove side on Jackalopes goaltender Connor Hellebuyck for the first goal of the game. But Odessa got goals from both Josh Obergon and Tyller Robert and came away with the 2-1 win.
Upcoming Games and Promotions
Next week, the Wichita Falls will be in town for a game on January 13th followed by the Odessa Jackalopes returning again on January 14th. That weekend will also be Children's Medical Center Winterfest presented by Jersey Mike's. The Tornado will be sporting retro jerseys which will be auctioned off following Saturday night's game. A portion of those proceeds will be donated to Children's Medical Center. It will be back on the road for the Tornado following Saturday night's game for a road contest Sunday afternoon against Corpus Christi, followed by two more road games at Topeka the following week.
