Tornado sweep Corpus Christi in front of large crowds
The Texas Tornado maintained their spot atop of the NAHL standings with a sweep over the Corpus Christi IceRays this past weekend in Frisco. Fans turned out in droves as the largest two crowds of the season saw the Tornado extend their winning streak to an NAHL season-high 14 straight games. The 14 wins in a row is the third longest streak in Tornado history, trailing only the 16 straight games won in 2003-04 and the 17 straight won in 1999-00. The Tornado defeated the IceRays on Friday night by a score of 3-1 as Mike Fleming and Michael Zagari each had a goal and an assist and Jimmy Kruger made 27 saves. On Saturday, the Tornado blanked Corpus Christi 7-0 in front of 3,750 fans, the largest crowd at the Dr Pepper Arena in Frisco since March 31, 2007. Goaltender Jake Stafford stopped all 26 shots for his second straight shutout and Jackson Leef, Alec Thieda and Nate Sliwinski all had three points.
Three-game roadtrip awaits streaking Tornado this week
This week the Texas Tornado put their 14-game winning streak on the line with three road games. The first will come on Wednesday, November 17th as the Tornado make their first trip of the season to Wichita Falls to face the Wildcats. This weekend, the Tornado will travel to Topeka for two games against the Roadrunners on Friday, November 19th and Saturday, November 20th. All games this week face-off at 7:05pm and can be heard live at www.tornadohockey.com or viewed live at www.nahl.fasthockey.com .
Tornado host Thanksgiving home games next week
The Texas Tornado will have three home games during Thanksgiving week. First, the Tornado will host the Amarillo Bulls the night before Thanksgiving on Wednesday, November 24th at 7:30pm. Then, the Tornado will host the Corpus Christi IceRays on Saturday, November 27th at 7:30pm and Sunday, November 28th at 5:00pm. Tickets can be purchased by stopping by or calling the Tornado office at 972-335-9800, or online at www.tornadohockey.com . Saturday, November 27th is Park Place Dealerships Tornado Hat Night. The first 2,000 fans will receive a FREE Tornado Hat upon entry. Also on Saturday prior to the game the Tornado will also host an official Tailgating Party beginning at 4:00pm in the South parking lot between the parking garage and the baseball stadium. Following the game on Saturday will be a Skate with the Tornado players on-ice session.
Royston traded to Owatonna Express
Texas Tornado Head Coach and General Manager Tony Curtale announced that forward Josh Royston has been traded to the Owatonna Express of the NAHL's Central Division. In exchange for Royston, the Tornado received a 2010-11 NAHL Tender. In 10 games with Texas, Royston had nine points.
Upcoming Tornado promotions
November 27 - Park Place Dealerships Tornado Hat Night. The first 2,000 fans will receive a FREE Texas Tornado hat courtesy of Park Place Dealerships.
December 11 - Military Appreciation Night. Players will wear military themed jerseys and a portion of the proceeds from the post-game jersey auction will benefit Snowball Express.
December 18 - Teddy Bear Toss. Bring your teddy bears to the game and toss them onto the ice when the Tornado score their first goal. All soft toys will be donated to local non-profit organizations.
