GAME HAPPENINGS: FAIRBANKS - The Tornado traveled to Fairbanks, Alaska this weekend to complete their two-week Northwest road trip. Facing off both Friday and Saturday nights at the Big Dipper Ice Arena, the home of the Fairbanks Ice Dogs, the Tornado left with a win and a loss, winning Friday night's game 6-2 and losing Saturday's 5-2.

In the first game on the series on Friday, the Tornado kept the scoring coming fiercely and spread out. Tyler Underhill opened up the scoring with his fifth goal of the season at 8:36, assisted by Scott Deur and Rock Einersen. The Tornado took their lead into the intermission as the goal was the only scored in the frame.

With a 1-0 lead going into the second period, the Tornado struck quick again, with Mico Solorzano netting his third goal of the season just 1:14 into the period. The goal was assisted by Jack Prince and Shay Cizmar. For the second consecutive period, the lone Tornado goal was the only scoring action of the period, and the team took their 2-0 lead into the intermission.

The third period was not the slow scoring period that the first two were, as the Tornado made sure to put the game out of reach. Eric Ware started the scoring in the final period, netting his second goal of the season at 1:25 on the powerplay. Jared Williams and Alex Jacobs assisted the goal, giving the Tornado a 3-0 lead and nine different players with points in the game. But the Tornado didn't stop there. After allowing a powerplay goal to the Ice Dogs, the Tornado scored the next three goals, all within six minutes. The first of the three goals came from David Rigatti, with the next two coming from Shay Cizmar, the forward that the Tornado acquired from the Ice Dogs earlier in the season. Fairbanks scored another goal late in the game to bring the final score to 5-2.

The Tornado finished the game with a total of 12 players registering points. Jared Williams, Jack Prince, Shay Cizmar, and Mico Solorzano each finished the game with multiple points on the game. Williams and Prince proved to be the helpful duo for the night, with the two players totaling five assists. Shay Cizmar was named the first star of the game with Prince following up as the second star. Dan Sullivan recorded 30 saves on 32 shots.

In Saturday's game the Tornado started off in similar fashion to Friday, with Rock Einersen netting the game's first goal at 6:52, assisted by Scott Deur and Mico Solorzano. The score at the intermission was 1-0 in favor of the Tornado, but Fairbanks scored two quick goals to start off the second period, putting Texas down 2-1. The Tornado later tied the game up at 2-2 off of a Justin Jones goal, but it was the last time the Tornado would score. Fairbanks would later add three goals in the third period to bring the score to 5-2.

The 1-1 series split puts the Tornado at 8-10-2 for the season and holds them in fourth place in the South Division for the time being. The series also marks the sixth that the Tornado have split with their opponent this year.

The Tornado will host the Wichita Falls Wildcats, the instate and divisional rival, this Friday and Saturday. Game times are 7:30 on Friday and 7:00 on Saturday at the Dr Pepper Arena in Frisco.
