Odessa Jackalopes News Release
FRISCO, TX - In the first of three straight games against one another, the Odessa Jackalopes scored a pair of third period goals to force overtime, but fell in a shootout 4-3 to the Texas Tornado on Wednesday at Dr. Pepper Arena in Frisco. By earning a point, the Jackalopes improved to 7-11-3 on the season and currently sit in a tie for fifth place in the NAHL's South Division with 17 points so far this year.
After the Tornado took a 1-0 lead less than a minute into the first period, the Jacks battled back to tie the game at 4:10 of the first, thanks to Sheldon Taylor's seventh goal of the season on feeds from Tyler Poulsen and Aditya Karandikar. After Texas notched the only second period goal, the Jackalopes entered the third period down 2-1 before a CJ Reuschlein goal at 4:29 of the third made it 3-1 Tornado.
Despite being outshot 36-28 in the game, the Jacks managed to rally back again late in regulation, as Taylor's second goal of the night, coming at 6:46 of the final frame on feeds from Curt Rau and new acquisition Josh Obregon, drew Odessa within one and then Willie Faust's team-leading tenth goal of the season tied the game at three at 14:17 of the third period thanks to a nifty passing sequence from Jalen Krogman and Tyller Robert.
Connor Hellebuyck stopped 33 of the 36 shots he faced in his 17th start of the season in a physical, tight-checking game that featured four fights and 48 combined penalty minutes. In the shootout, Hellebuyck stopped three of the four shooters he faced while Texas goaltender Joakim Jutras shut out the Jacks through five rounds to earn the victory.
Next up for Odessa, it's a weekend series with the Tornado on Friday and Saturday night in a pair of 7:05 pm starts at Ector County Coliseum.
The Odessa Jackalopes celebrate their 15th Anniversary in 2011-12 and drop the puck on their inaugural campaign as a member of the North American Hockey League.
