Tornado Hockey Update

January 4, 2006 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Texas Tornado News Release

Back and Rested from the Holidays, the Tornado Prepare for Clash in Texarkana As 2006 begins, the Texas Tornado find themselves in unfamiliar territory... in 2nd place in their division. For the past six years, the Tornado has enjoyed the view from the top of their division in the North American Hockey League, but as the Tornado took a two week break during the holidays, the Texarkana Bandits were busy playing three home games. The Bandits won all three and now have a two-point lead on the Tornado entering 2006. Both teams have played 31 regular season games, and have 27 games remaining, but unfortunately because of all the head-to-head games played against one another the first half of the season, the Tornado and Bandits only face one another three more times. The first two will come this weekend (January 6th and 7th, 7:05pm) as the Tornado travel to Texarkana for what can be described as the biggest road weekend of the season. It is simple... if the Tornado can win both games, they can recapture first place in the NAHL South Division. Following this weekend, the Tornado has six straight games against the last-place Santa Fe Roadrunners. In nine total games this season between the Tornado and the Bandits, the Bandits have the slight edge, five games to four. Following this weekend, the Tornado and Bandits will play only one more time this regular season during a Wednesday night, February 22nd game in Frisco. Both games can be heard live on tornadohockey.com, beginning with the eLinksystems Pre-Game Show at 6:55pm.

Texas Tornado Defenseman Stonehouse Captures NAHL Honor Texas Tornado defenseman #6 Devrin Stonehouse has been honored for the first time in his U.S. junior hockey career as NAHL Defensive Player of the Week after a five point week during the weekend of December 15-17. On Friday, the Elkhorn, Manitoba, native scored two goals against the Santa Fe Roadrunners, an early second period goal which tied the game 1-1, and then a late second period goal that proved to be the game-winner in a 3-2 Tornado victory. The next night, Stonehouse registered three assists in a 7-4 triumph over the Roadrunners, including one on the game opening first period goal, one on a second period go-ahead goal, and a third period empty net goal. Last season's Manitoba Junior Hockey League Defenseman of the Year, Stonehouse is now second among Tornado defenseman in scoring.
