Top Receiver Purify Rejoins Force for Playoffs

Georgia Force News Release

Duluth, GA - Two weeks ago, Force receiver Maurice Purify left the team to pursue an opportunity in the United Football League. However, in light of the league's recently-publicized difficulties, Purify will rejoin the Force in time for the regular season finale and playoff run.

"Maurice is an elite receiver in every sense of the word," said Force president Cory Howerton. "With our fans already thrilled by the chance that we could host the American Conference Championship Game, this is just icing on the cake."

On July 7, Purify signed with the Omaha Nighthawks of the UFL. However, the league announced earlier this week that the five-team league's regular season would be delayed by 30 days due to financial problems, clearing the way for its players to pursue opportunities elsewhere in the meantime.

Purify, a University of Nebraska product, returns to the AFL having amassed 123 receptions for 1,525 yards and 43 touchdowns in 15 games. Upon his departure, only Iowa's Jesse Schmidt had scored more touchdowns, and just five others had more receiving yards. His 43 touchdowns this season are the second-most in Force franchise history behind Chris Jackson in 2007, and only two rookies ever have finished with a higher total.
