April 17, 2014 - Champions Professional Indoor Football League (CPIFL)
Bloomington Edge News Release

The Bloomington Edge look to build on last week's win as they host one of the teams tied at the top of the Champions Professional Indoor Football League standings this Saturday.

The Edge (1-4) host the Sioux City Bandits (4-1) at 7:05 p.m. Saturday at U.S. Cellular Coliseum. Before the game, long-time coach Ted Schmitz will be honored for his contributions to Bloomington indoor football, including serving twice as head coach and being involved in coaching and personnel since the first season in 2006. The Edge will also honor the city of Washington and its recovery from last year's devastating tornado, and donations of cash and gift cards will be accepted at the customer service table and presented to Washington officials during the game.

Bloomington is coming off its first victory of the season in a 59-58 triumph over the Oklahoma Defenders last Saturday in Tulsa, while the Bandits captured their fourth straight victory in a 61-55 win at Omaha.

The Bandits own the top scoring offense in the CPIFL with 59.8 points per game while the Edge are fifth with 49 points per contest. The teams own the top two total offenses with Sioux City's 267 yards per game leading the league with the Edge narrowly behind at 262.6. The Bandits are tops in rushing with 110.8 yards per game while the Edge lead in passing with 188.8 yards per contest.

Edge quarterback Charles Dowdell is the CPIFL's top passer by completing 59.6 percent of his attempts for an average of 199.2 yards, easily leading the circuit. Edge return specialist LaVaughn Macon leads the league in all-purpose yards with an average of 149.6.

The Bandits' John Bentley is the league's top rusher with six yards per carry and 70.8 yards per game. He rushed for a league season high 167 yards last week at Omaha, second most in league history, to earn CPIFL Offensive Player of the Week honors. Bentley set the league record last season against the Edge with 193 rushing yards.
