New Orleans VooDoo News Release
NEW ORLEANS (September 5, 2012) - Recapping the 2012 season that saw the club finish in the postseason for only the second time in team history, the New Orleans VooDoo continues its count down of its Top 10 plays of year. This third edition includes No. 6 and No. 5.
No. 5: Kurt Rocco 4th down, 44-yard touchdown pass to Josh Bush in overtime at Tampa Bay Storm (7.14)
Although the VooDoo didn't leave Tampa Bay with a win, the game proved to be one of the best, most exciting games in the AFL in 2012. New Orleans held a 17-point advantage early in the third quarter, but Tampa Bay played with purpose in the second half, fighting for its postseason lives to tie the game, 70-70, to end regulation. The overtime period slated the VooDoo with the ball first, and after three plays and no yards, 4th down was upon New Orleans. Quarterback Kurt Rocco looked past the first down marker, and tossed it up for grabs to old reliable Josh Bush who came down with the 44-yard touchdown reception to give the VooDoo the go-ahead score in the extra period. Bush finished the game with a franchise record 256 yards receiving on 9 receptions, making play after play to keep the VooDoo in the game.
No. 6: Jeremy Kellem's 39-yard interception return for a touchdown versus Tampa Bay (4.06)
Late in the second quarter, rookie defensive back Jeremy Kellem officially put himself on the AFL map with his 39-yard interception return for a touchdown against Tampa Bay in The Graveyard to give the VooDoo a 30-14 lead. The game, which was nationally televised on the NFL Network, served as the VooDoo's "End The Graveyard Curse" contest that sought to stop the franchise's 12-game home losing streak that dated back to the 2008 season. The skid was the second longest in AFL history, and thanks to Kellem's interception return for a touchdown that highlighted the VooDoo's 66-47 victory over rival Tampa Bay. Kellem finished the game with 9.0 total tackles (8.0 solo), 2 pass breakups and an interception.
