BLAINE, Minn. (June 25, 2002) — The Minnesota Thunder will honor its most accomplished alumni, US World Cup star Tony Sanneh, at half-time of Saturday night's Thunder vs. Rochester Rhinos match at the National Sports Center (kickoff 7 p.m.).

Sanneh, a member of the US World Cup Team that advanced to the quarterfinals of the World Cup in South Korea, is coming off a superb performance in the World Cup. Experts are predicting that the 31-year- old St. Paul native will reap the benefits of a new contract and a new team in Europe.

Sanneh returned to the Twin Cities today after appearing on the "Late Night Show With David Letterman," (last night) and "The Today Show," (this morning).

"We are all very proud that one of our own has made it to the pinnacle of soccer," said Thunder head coach Buzz Lagos. "I hope he gives many young Minnesotans a dream to shoot for."

The Thunder will induct Sanneh into its Hall of Fame at halftime of Saturday's match. Sanneh will become the second-member of the Minnesota Thunder Hall of Fame, following Tony Peszneker who was inducted in 1998.

Tickets for the match can be obtained by calling the Thunder box office at 763-785-3668.
