JOHNSTOWN - It was an emotional night at 1st SUMMIT AREANA as the hockey community came together for the 7th annual Faceoff-Against-Cancer night. This season, the fight took on a personal meaning with several members of the hockey community being closely affected by this horrible disease. The fans and the players rallied together to win both on and off the ice by raising over $10,000 and splitting the weekend with a 4-2 victory over the Rebels.
The Tomahawks held 5 fundraisers surrounding tonight's game.
Over $5,000 was raised for Alana and the Letizia Family to cover medical cost and expenses surrounding her fight with breast cancer. A special thanks to Ginger, the Tomahawks billet families and the Rockwood School District staff for coordinating the basket sale and fundraising efforts.
The hockey community sold chuck-a-pucks to support Little Warrior Ian Rosenbaum. A special thank you to the Johnstown Warriors for raising $1000 for the 6 year old hockey player as he begins his fight against Leukemia.
The staff at Chan Soon-Shiong Medical Center came together to sale $1060 in 50/50 tickets for the Joyce Murtha Breast Care Center.
The Tomahawks Booster Club helped raised over $2,080 with the Wendy's Jersey of the Game to support 18 year old Tomahawks forward Joey Baez, who recently lost his father to colon cancer on Sept. 30. The amount raised will help cover the funeral cost for the Baez family. A special thank you to Booster Club coordinators Holly, Mike, Greg and the entire booster club family.
Finally, the Tomahawks wore specialty cancer awareness jerseys that are currently being auctioned off ending tomorrow at 5:00pm on DASH AUCTION. The proceeds benefit the Tomahawks Foundation and their efforts with several community initiatives.
