Danbury Titans News Release
After a light week to end February, March began with a three game weekend for the Danbury Titans who head into the last full month of the regular season fighting for position at the top of the standings.
Friday featured a matchup with the rival Brewster Bulldogs in Danbury. The Titans took the lead in the first period with three goals. Jason Berube got his first pro goal to get things started followed by Mike Henderson and Tyler Gjurich. Brewster would grab a goal late to make it 3-1.
The second period had no scoring but was a tight contest with good defense from both sides. The third period began with Brewster scoring early in the third to get within a goal but a late goal on the power play from Gjurich. Danbury locked it down for a 4-2 win.
From there the Titans would head north to Berlin to start a home and home with the River Drivers. Gjurich would get things going late in the first with a goal to give the Titans a 1-0 lead heading into the second period. The second frame belonged to Berlin as they scored two goals and outshot the Titans 18-8.
Their lead was short-lived as Gjurich would bring Danbury back just over three minutes into the third period on the power play. The man advantage would prove to be the difference as a late power play would allow Mike Driscoll to put Danbury ahead for good. Danbury's rookie would score just 44 seconds later for an insurance marker.
Both teams would meet again on Sunday in Danbury for a matinee game. Again Danbury would have to play catch up as Berlin scored first early in the first. It wasn't until the second period that Danbury was able to knot things up when Mike Henderson scored. The period would be a see saw battle as the teams traded goals. Dean Yakura would score two goals in the period to keep the Titans in the game and end the period tied at three.
The third period started off bad for the Titans as the River Drivers scored early to regain the lead. However a power play goal in the latter half of the third period would tie things up as Phil Bronner knocked a rebound by Berlin's goaltender. The goal would help force overtime where Mike Driscoll would be the hero again as he scored a goal on a drive to the net to complete the weekend sweep.
The Danbury Titans will return to action on Thursday night when they face off against Berlin at 7:35 PM. Saturday night will feature the Dayton Demolition visiting and then Sunday the RiverDrivers will return for a matinee match up again.
