Danbury Titans News Release

Every team goes through adversity in a long hockey season and it seems the Danbury Titans are going through it now. Danbury went 1-2 on the weekend.

The first two games were a home and home with the Berlin RiverDrivers. Both games were high scoring affairs where defense and goaltending seemed to be put by the way side. In two games, the teams combined for 27 goals. Thursday saw the RiverDrivers win the game despite some late heroics by the Titans who scored two goals in the final three minutes to force overtime. Despite Danbury's numerous chances to end the game in overtime, Berlin survived and finished the Titans off in the shootout.

Friday night was more of the same. After the first period ended 2-1 in favor of Berlin, the RiverDrivers started off the second period rattling off three unanswered goals. The Titans were able to get back within two goals before the end of the second. However, Berlin scored four goals in the third to put the game out of reach for Danbury.

Danbury's weekend was not going to get any easier on Saturday as the first place Port Huron Prowlers traveled to Danbury. Despite having a depleted squad, the Prowlers would not go down easily. The teams skated to a 1-1 tie after one period with Mike Driscoll scoring for the Titans.

In the second, it seemed like Danbury was going to pull away after two early goals from Tyler Gjurich and Dean Yakura. Port Huron would not go away as they scored the next two goals in the second and early third period to tie the game up. Matt Caranci responded with a goal halfway through the third in what seemed like a dagger in the heart to the Prowlers. However, Port Huron responded again to tie the game. It wasn't until Phil Bronner's late power play goal that the game was put away.

The Titans have another set of three games in three nights this week. Friday they will be in Brewster to play the Bulldogs before hosting them in Danbury on Saturday night. Sunday will see the Dayton Demolition make their first trip to Danbury as the teams drop the puck at 5:05 for a Valentine's Day affair.
