Danbury Titans News Release
DANBURY, CT - Ryan Patsch was named first star with a goal and two assists while Tyler Gjurich scored the game winner as the Danbury Titans defeated the Dayton Demolition 5-4 in the first game of the FHL Playoffs. Josselin St Pierre would make 43 saves in the losing effort, and his Demolition team is now one game away from elimination.
Danbury got the start they were looking for courtesy of Ryan Patsch's goal just 3:59 into the game. Tyler Gjurich and John Scorcia received the assists. Patsch would be at it again less than three minutes later, assisted on Ian DeLong's goal. Dean Yakura had the other helper. The Demolition would start to gain some offensive momentum towards the end of the period, but they could not solve Danbury's Alex Vazzano. Dayton went 0-2 on the power play in the period, and Danbury did not convert on their lone opportunity. The Titans also outshot the Demolition 17-12.
The Demolition began the second period with 55 seconds remaining on a carryover power play. However, they were hemmed in their own end, and a mere two seconds after the power play expired, John Scorcia would make it a 3-0 game for Danbury by outwaiting St. Pierre and tucking a puck past the goaltender's outstretched arm. Patsch and Bryan Dallaire tallied the assists. Just over a minute later, and on a power play of their own, the Danbury Titans started to put the game out of reach. Brett Liscomb deflected a Dallaire shot from the point to make the lead 4-0. Jacques Lamoureux would finally get one past Vazzano to get Dayton within three towards the end of the period, with Cory Giroux and Myles McCauley getting the assists.
The physical play that had started to pick up in the second period finally boiled over in the third. Dallaire and Dayton't Pat Harrison would shed the gloves with a spirited bout, and St Pierre would incur a roughing penalty of his own during another altercation. The Demolition came out of the locker room for the third period a re-energized team, scoring twice in a span of 1:07 to cut the lead to one. Robert Vanwynsberghe scored on a solo effort, and Eric Witzel
connected with Harrison and McCauley to give Dayton hope. Play was tight between the two teams for the rest of the period. Tyler Gjurich, who recently minted a 50 goal season, would snap a shot past the glove of a surprised St Pierre, to restore the two goal lead for the Titans. Ryan Timar would get one back for Dayton by deflecting a McCauley shot from the point, but it would not be enough.
With the win, the Titans can now sweep the Demolition by winning their next game and punch their ticket to the Commissioner's Cup Finals. Dayton, with their backs against the wall, must attempt to defeat Danbury on home ice to hope for a possible Game 3, scheduled for Monday if necessary. The two teams will meet again tomorrow night, with a 7:00pm faceoff at the Danbury Ica Arena.
