Lewiston MAINEiacs News Release
Lewiston, ME (QMJHL) - The Lewiston MAINEiacs played well for the better part of two periods on Saturday night, but unfortunately, the third period did them in. The Acadie-Bathurst Titan scored five unanswered goals, including four in the third, as they erased a 3-1 deficit for a 6-3 victory in front of 1,430 fans at the KC Irving Regional Centre.
Just under five minutes into the opening period, the MAINEiacs struck first. Cameron Critchlow won an offensive zone draw back to Sam Finn, who played the puck to defensive partner Dillon Fournier. Fournier let a wrist shot go from the point, getting a deflection from Critchlow for the first goal of the contest.
Early in the second period, the visitors added to their lead. While playing shorthanded, Etienne Brodeur poked the puck free into center ice for Antoine Houde-Caron. Houde-Caron sped through the middle, before returning the puck to Brodeur, who went top shelf for his seventh shorthanded tally of the year. Midway through the period, the Titan got one back, as Yoan Pinette banked a shot in off of Nicholas Champion during a delayed penalty. At the end of the frame, the two sides exchanged goals. Sam Carrier put Lewiston ahead by two, spinning around and beating Olivier Roy with the team's second shorthanded goal of the evening. 24 seconds later, Acadie-Bathurst responded, as Gabriel Levesque rifled in a shot from the left circle.
The Titan carried the momentum from the power play goal into the third period, where they lit the lamp four straight times. Yoan Pinette evened the score, ringing a shot off of the post from the right circle. 1:27 later, Sebastien Trudeau put Acadie-Bathurst ahead, finishing off a centering pass by Gabriel Levesque. 39 seconds after that, David Gilbert added to the lead, deflecting the puck out of the air to himself for an easy tap-in. Gilbert netted his second of the night into an empty net, as the Titan went on to the 6-3 win.
Olivier Roy earned the win in goal for Acadie-Bathurst, stopping 31 of the 34 shots he faced. Nicholas Champion suffered the loss for Lewiston, allowing five goals on 27 shots.
The MAINEiacs will conclude their road trip on Sunday afternoon at 4:00, when they visit the Rimouski Oceanic. After that, Lewiston will play seven of eight games on home ice, beginning on Friday, when Rimouski is the visiting team.
