Tired Surge Fall to Louisiana

March 3, 2013 - SPHL (SPHL)
Mississippi Surge News Release

A gritty effort by the Mississippi Surge came up just short in a 2-1 loss to the Louisiana IceGators in Lafayette, Sunday afternoon. The Surge was playing its third game in two and a half days, whereas Louisiana had an off day Saturday, and had played its previous two games at home.

Louisiana opened the scoring on a power play goal by Marc-Andre Carre at 16:15 of the first period. But the Surge answered back quickly when Kyle Kudroch tied the game a minute and nine seconds later.

Josh Duplantis had the only goal of the second period and it proved to be the game winner for Louisiana. Surge goaltender B.J. O'Brien had a strong game stopping 35 of the 37 shots he faced. The loss ended the Surge's three game winning streak. It was also the last home game of the season for Louisiana which will play its final eight regular season games on the road.

The Surge has six games remaining in the regular season. The next game will be Thursday when Pensacola visits the Mississippi Coast Coliseum at 7:05 p.m.
