SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The Fort Wayne TinCaps had three more hits than the South Bend Cubs (Chicago Cubs), but the TinCaps lost, 3-1, on Sunday night at Four Winds Field.

South Bend (31-18) scored first in the bottom of the third inning. Luis Ayala began the frame with a double. After a strikeout and a fly out, Yeiler Peguero worked a walk to put runners on the corners with two outs. Vimael Machin followed with a triple that scored both Ayala and Peguero to give South Bend a 2-0 lead.

Fort Wayne (17-33) scored its lone run in the top of the fourth inning. With one out, second baseman Eguy Rosario singled. Rosario then stole his 15th base of the season, which ties him for second in the Midwest League in stolen bases. First baseman G.K. Young singled to right field, scoring Rosario to cut the deficit to 2-1.

The Cubs added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth. Zach Short led off with a ball hit to center field that bounced off the outfield wall and allowed Short to run around the bases for an inside-the-park home run for a 3-1 South Bend advantage.

TinCaps starting pitcher Reggie Lawson (L) struck out five batters through four innings while allowing two runs and four hits.

South Bend left-hander Manuel Rondon (W) allowed one run in six innings pitched despite Fort Wayne picking up five hits off Rondon. Reliever Wyatt Short (S) pitched a perfect ninth inning to garner his fourth save of the season.

Designated hitter Tyler Selesky led Fort Wayne with two hits. The TinCaps had eight total hits but none went for extra bases. Fort Wayne went 2-for-6 with runners in scoring position, yet still left six runners on base.
