- DONATIONS BEING ACCEPTED FOR AL LUCAS TRUST FUND: A trust fund has been established to benefit the family of Al Lucas, who tragically passed away after suffering an apparent spinal cord injury during the Los Angeles Avengers game against the New York Dragons on Sunday, April 10. - MC MILLEN IS NAMED GRAND MARSHAL: Chicago Rush FB-LB Bob McMillen was the Grand Marshal of the Hillside Youth Athletic Parade, which marked the official opening of the village's youth sports season on Saturday, April 16.
McMillen was born in Hillside and participated in the village's youth sports programs growing up. He joined an impressive group of Chicago sporting greats who have been the grand marshal of the parade, including Gary Matthews, Ed O'Bradovich and Billy Williams.
"This is the 100th anniversary of Hillside and who better than Bob McMillen -- a native son -- to be the grand marshal of our parade," said Evelyn Belmonte, Hillside's special events coordinator. "We're honored and excited to have Bob be a part of our history. We're proud of him."
- FORMER AFL ROOKIE OF THE YEAR IN NFL DRAFT NEWS: The AFL's 2004 Rookie of the Year, Adrian McPherson (6-3, 189, Florida State), is expected to be selected in the 2005 NFL Draft this weekend.
In 2004, McPherson led all rookie quarterbacks in passing attempts (397), yards (3,297), touchdowns (61) and passer rating (119.6). His passer rating ranked No. 4 among all AFL quarterbacks. The former Seminole also finished No. 3 in the AFL in rushing touchdowns (19) and yards (259) on 65 attempts. His 19 rushing touchdowns were the most ever in a season by a quarterback.
