
Timely Hitting Leads 'Hawks over Quakes

LANCASTER, Calif. - Despite stranding 13 baserunners through the first six innings, the JetHawks overcame three separate deficits en route to a 10-5 win over the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes on Monday night at The Hangar.
Ronnie Mitchell and Chase McDonald each recorded three hits for the JetHawks (67-60), while Mitchell and Mott Hyde both drove in two runs. Alex Bregman went 2-for-6 with a home run, extending his hitting streak to 10 games.
Michael Freeman (1-0) and Kevin Comer pitched a combined five hitless and scoreless innings in relief of starter Austin Chrismon, who allowed five runs on six hits over just four innings.
With the JetHawks trailing, 5-4, Derek Fisher led off the bottom of the sixth with a single. J.D. Davis hit into a fielder's choice, but after a Ronnie Mitchell single and a Jamie Ritchie walk, Hyde gave Lancaster the lead with a two-run single to left field off Quakes (70-57) reliever A.J. Vanegas (3-1).
In the seventh, the JetHawks added four runs with Karch Kowalczyk on the mound for Rancho Cucamonga. Mitchell plated two with a triple to right field, McDonald hit a RBI-double, and Ritchie added a RBI-single to extend Lancaster's lead to five runs.
The Quakes had taken an early lead with two first-inning runs, but the JetHawks came within one on a solo home run by Bregman off Chase De Jong. Willie Calhoun then homered in the top of the second for Rancho Cucamonga before Lancaster tied the score at 3-3 in the bottom half, as Edwin Medina drew a bases-loaded walk and James Ramsay hit a sacrifice fly.
Both teams scored one run in the third, and the Quakes retook the lead in the top of the fourth on Calhoun's second home run of the game against Chrismon. The JetHawks failed to score in the
The series continues on Tuesday with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Akeem Bostick (4-4, 6.99) will pitch for the JetHawks, and Matt Shelton (1-1, 8.31) will start for the Quakes.
