Tim Marks and Chris Swiatkiewicz earn Northern League Awards

Catcher Tim Marks of the Schaumburg Flyers and righthander Chris Swiatkiewicz of the Sioux City Explorers have been selected as the Northern League Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively for August 8-14, it was announced today by the league office.
Marks batted .480 (12-25) with two homers and a league high 11 rbi in six games last week. He hit safely in all six contests with five multi-hit games and drove in six runs on August 11 against Sioux Falls. Marks takes an 11-game hitting streak into Tuesday's game at St. Paul.
For the season, Marks has a .321 average with three homers and 33 rbi in 63 games with St. Paul and Schaumburg.
Switatkiewicz was 1-0 with a 0.53 era in his two starts for the week. The righthander allowed just one run in a league high 17 innings with four walks and five strikeouts. He had no decision on August 8 at Fargo (8 ip, 7 h, 0 r, 2 bb, 3 so) and pitched his second complete game of the season in a victory on August 13 versus Calgary (9 ip, 9 h, 1 r-er, 2 bb, 2 so).
The veteran Northern Leaguer is 5-4, 3.81 in 12 starts with the Explorers in 2005.
Other players who received nominations were Carlos Duncan of Calgary, Chris Hall of Edmonton, Richard Austin of Fargo-Moorhead, Jay Pecci of Gary, Matt McCay of Joliet, Ray Brown of Kansas City, Chad Ehrnsberger of St. Paul, Bobby Brown of Sioux City, Kirk Pierce of Sioux Falls, and Ralph Santana of Winnipeg.
Pitchers receiving consideration were Edmonton's Ira Brown, Fargo-Moorhead's Taft Cable and Brandon Goltz, Gary's Willie Glen, Joliet's Luis Villarreal, Kansas City's David Viane, Schaumburg's Ray Jenkins, and Winnipeg's David Manning.
FORMER SCHAUMBURG PITCHER MATT BAILIE THROWS NO-HITTER FOR BOWIE BAYSOX
Former Schaumburg Flyers righthander Matt Bailie pitched a nine-inning no-hitter on Sunday for the class AA Bowie BaySox of the Eastern League.
In just his second start since joining the Baltimore Orioles organization, Bailie won at Erie, 5-0, allowing just two baserunners with three strikeouts. He retired the first 14 Seawolves before Jack Hannahan walked with one out in the fifth. The only other Erie hitter to reach base was Byron Gettis, who was hit by a pitch with two out in the eighth.
Bailie was 8-1 with a Northern League low 2.16 era in 13 starts with Schaumburg before being purchased by Baltimore on August 8. He lost his first start with Bowie on August 9 vs. Altoona, allowing six runs in 3.1 innings. Bailie, who spent his first four pro seasons in the Philadelphia Phillies system, is 1-1, 4.38 in his two starts with Bowie.
