Thunder's Lenford Earns Special Teams Award
March 18, 2008 - Intense Football League (Intense)
Frisco Thunder News Release
FRISCO, Tex. - After registering a staggering 197 return yards to earn the Intense Football League's special teams player of the week, Kevin Lenford's efforts in the Frisco Thunder's 50-41 victory over the Alaska Wild felt like old times.
Lenford handled return duties for three seasons at Angelo State, and when the Thunder offered him the opportunity to return kicks, he jumped.
"It had been a while since college," Lenford said. "Returning kicks is a big adrenalin rush. It's like being on a bungee cord - people are coming at you, you're going right at them. It's exciting."
Lenford averaged 24.6 yards a return on five kickoffs and had two missed field goal returns for 73 on a record -setting day. The Thunder started seven possessions inside Alaska territory, including four inside the 10-yard line.
"Everybody on special teams was blocking for me," Lenford said.
Also having a solid special teams day was kicker Dennis Hopovac, who kicked a team-record three field goals and finished with 14 points scored.
The Thunder (3-0) hosts the CenTex Barracudas (0-0) Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Dr Pepper Star Center. Contact (972) 731-6968 or visit www.friscothunderifl.com.
