Rockford Thunder News Release

June 17, 2009 - ROSCOE, Ill. - The Rockford Thunder returned home from a five-game road trip and won its third straight game by knocking off the USSSA Pride by a final score of 2-0.

The Pride (1-5) sent ace pitcher and Olympic teammate of Cat Osterman to the circle in the opener and she was matched pitch-by-pitch by Rockford's Allison Kime. Both pitchers were sharp early in the contest as neither allowed a run over the first three innings.

In the fourth inning the Thunder (7-4) finally got to Abbott and Pride. Shanel Scott started the inning with a one-out single to left field and she moved to second with her seventh stolen base of the season. Lyndsey Angus walked and Amanda Williams was hit on the first pitch of her at-bat setting the table for Shanna Diller.

Diller hit a line drive back up the middle off of Abbott's leg and she was able to beat the close play at first base. On the play both Scott and Angus were able to score the only runs of the game giving Diller eight RBIs on the season.

Kime, who is now 2-1 on the season, faced just three hitters over the minimum in her complete game win. She allowed just two hits and a hit batter in the game, while striking out nine Pride hitters.

The loss went to Abbott who allowed four singles in the game and she struck out 12 Thunder hitters.

The Thunder will return to action tomorrow night for game two of the series with the Pride. Game two is scheduled to begin at 7:05 p.m. and will follow tomorrow's high school all-star game between seniors from the Big Northern and NIC-10 conferences.

Rockford will send Cat Osterman to the circle in game two where she will most likely oppose Sarah Pauly from the Pride. Osterman will look to improve her league-best record to 5-0.
