Rockford Thunder News Release

LEAGUE CITY, Texas - The Texas Thunder of the National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) put on a great show for the fans on Wednesday night, as they shutout the Michigan Ice behind a one-hitter from Christa Williams.

While Williams was doing her part in the circle for the Thunder, her teammates were having some fun of their own offensively.

As a team, Texas scored 20 runs on 18 hits in the game, six of which went for extra base hits. The Thunder wasted little time getting going as they scored eight runs in bottom of the first inning on eight hits, the big blow coming on a Lindsay Gardner two-run home run.

The second and third innings were much of the same for the Thunder as they scored five and six runs, respectively.

Nine players recorded at least one hit in the game, with four players recording three hits in the contest. Amanda Freed and Kim Nesloney each went 3-for-5 in the game with four RBI's each and Gardner and Karrie Rider were each 3-for-4.

Williams went all seven innings for the Thunder to record her third win to zero defeats. Her three wins tie her for the league league. In her seven innings of work, only one player reached first base and Jackie Cornelius would be thrown out at second base while attempting to steal second base. For the night, the three-year veteran fanned 15 hitters and walked none.

The Thunder will return to action tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. for the second game of the series with the Michigan Ice. Tickets are still available by calling (281) 403-2475 or (720) 318-1205. Tickets can also be purchased directly at the gate at Big League Dreams.
