Rockford Thunder News Release

ROCKFORD - The Rockford Thunder announced today that they will host a pair of high school all-star games on June 17 and June 18 prior to the Thunder's games with the Washington Glory.

The Inaugural Northern Illinois All-Star Classics sponsored by State Farm will feature the best senior softball players from the NIC-10, Big Northern and NUIC conferences. On Wednesday, June 17 the NUIC senior all-stars from the East and West divisions will battle it out for bragging rights in the conference. The game on June 18 will feature the top seniors from the NIC-10 and Big Northern West conferences, which also will include North Boone, Rockford Christian and Christian Life.

Due to Illinois High School Association (IHSA) rules only seniors are allowed to participate in all-star games.

The games will be coached by different members of the Thunder team. Coaches include Thunder infielder and Oregon High School Head Coach Jamie Davison will coach the Big Northern squad, while team practice squad player and Harlem High School alum Paige Granath will coach the NIC-10 team. Coaching the NUIC west division team will be Thunder General Manager and DuPec Head Coach Aaron Moore. The east team will be led by new Thunder assistant coach and Rockford College assistant baseball coach Mike Steuerwald.

At least one player from each school involved will be represented in the games and players will be announced on the Thunder website on Thursday, May 21, 2009.

"We're extremely excited about hosting these games at Thunder Park in Roscoe," said Moore. "This is a great way for us to showcase the good talent in Northern Illinois and we're looking forward to some exciting competition."

The Thunder will contribute $1 of each ticket sold for the high school games to the Special Olympics of Illinois. The most valuable players of each game will each be presented with a $500 scholarship from game sponsor State Farm.

"The State Farm Agents involved in this sponsorship are very proud to support local high school athletics as well as the Special Olympics," stated agent Jason Bonomo. "This is a great way for us to be involved in the community."

Tickets can be purchased for the all-star games, the Thunder games or a combination of both by calling the Thunder office. Tickets for just the all-star games will be $5/each or fans can buy a two-game pass for $10/each. Group tickets are also available for both games at $7/each.
