Thunder To Face Kansas City Wizards July 17 During Schwan's Usa Cup In Blaine

ST. PAUL, Minn. (Thursday, June 7, 2007) - The Minnesota Thunder announced today that it will face top Major League Soccer team, the Kansas City Wizards, on Tuesday, July 17 at the National Sports Center in Blaine for the SCHWAN'S USA CUP Soccer Challenge. Kick off is set for 7:35 p.m. This David vs. Goliath match will be the highlight game of the SCHWAN'S USA CUP; the largest youth soccer tournament in the Western Hemisphere each summer that hosts over 950 teams from 20 different countries.

Tickets for this match go on sale immediately at www.mnthunder.com . Ticket prices are set at $10 for youth (under 18), $14 for adult, $20 for VIP with seat backs, and $28 for a limited number of Field Reserved seats. SCHWAN'S USA CUP participants will receive youth tickets for $8 a piece if purchased in advance through the NSC.

'We're extremely excited to take on what is the best team in MLS right now,' said Thunder head coach Amos Magee. 'To bring the Wizards to the NSC during one of the largest soccer tournaments around will be a real treat for soccer fans.'

The Wizards currently sit at the top of MLS with 19 points from a record of 6-2-1. They are one point behind the New York Red Bulls, but have played one less game. The Wizards boast a powerful offense, scoring a MLS leading 19 goals in just nine games this season. Forward Eddie Johnson leads the league in goals this season with nine and just recently completed the first ever back to back hat-trick in league history.

Fans will have the opportunity to see a select number of Wizards stars who are scheduled to appear and several of their up and coming players. The Wizards are home to several impact players including national team members Johnson and Jimmy Conrad, goalkeeper Kevin Hartman, midfielder Sasha Victorine, and defender Nick Garcia.

The Wizards have won the MLS Cup once (2000) and were the runners up in 2004. They also have one US Open Cup championship which they claimed in 2004.

The Thunder and the Wizards faced off in the Open Cup Quarterfinals in 2005. After already beating two MLS teams, the Thunder walked into Kansas City and topped the Wizards by a score of 3-1 in route to their semi-final match in Los Angeles against the Galaxy.
